Young Vincentians Protecting Mother Earth

The National Council of India functions with the help of Six Regional Coordination Committee since India is vast country. Western India Region is one of the region which organized youth meet on 19th & 20th October 2019 at Pedro Aarupe Centre, Raia, South Goa. The meet aimed with the theme “Young Vincentians Protecting Mother Earth”. Around fifty Youth from different central councils were participated with much enthusiasm.

The meet had formally inaugurated with respect to Founders and Patron, lightening of traditional lamp. Bro. James Dabre, National Twinning Officer, Bro. Abhil Micheal & Bro. Ornel Raj, National Youth Coordinators, NCI, Bro. Amancio, Regional Coordinator, Dr. Jorson, Resource Person graced with their presence.

There were different topics was handled by the resource persons like Dr. Jorson on Attitude of a Vincentian, The youth of Goa demonstrated an easy way to grow trees called “Seed Balling” technique, which reduces the work of digging a big hole to plant trees. Br. Aamancio also stressed on the same.         Fr. Roger Coutinho on Different types of addictions followed by holy rosary was recited as we are walking towards the Statue of Our Lady of Sorrows. Bro. Abhil Micheal, National Youth Coordinator shared his experience as being a young Vincentian. Bro. Leo Levin, National Vice President insisted on roles and responsibilities of youth in SSVP and shared about the global young Vincentian activities followed by early dinner.

In the evening we had a gathering at Utordha Beach with games, dance, camp fire and entertainment for the participants organized by the local conference members along with some little snack. Later on during the campfire, we were singing with our hearts in the sand on our feet and the wind in our face. 

Day 2 was a surprise for all of us that Bro. Dr. Johnson Varghese, National President had arrived in the morning, which really motivated us. The day started with holy mass, where the participants among themselves had shared the sermon instead of the mass celebrant. Mr. Jovito Lopez handled a session on pollution and the environmental affects. Youth Bro. Johnson introduced Youth T Shirt.

During his talk, Bro. Johnson shared his experience as being a national youth representative and also encouraged the youth to come forward to take initiatives in their respective central councils. He had also promised that the National Council of India will extend its complete support for the development of the young people.

CC Youth Representatives presented the activity reports for the previous year and was evaluated by the national team. Bro. Johnson had interactive session with the participants to get to know the reality at the ground levels. The whole was organized by Sr. Arita and Bro.
