The invocation and opening prayer of the gala were led by the Archbishop of New York, Monsignor Ronald Hicks.

This year’s award was presented to the Knights of Columbus and received by the Supreme Knight, Mr. Patrick E. Kelly, from the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States and Titular Archbishop of Sepino, Archbishop Gabriele G. Caccia, President of the Foundation and Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations. The award was presented during the traditional dinner organized in support of the work of the Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations and various urgent humanitarian causes.

This Mission was established in 1964 and plays an active role in promoting peace, justice, human rights, and the social doctrine of the Church within the international community.

The Knights of Columbus are one of the world’s largest Catholic laymen’s organizations. Their purpose is humanitarian aid, formation, and support for families in various countries. Their mission is to help Catholics live their faith and serve their families, parishes, communities, and nations.

Mr. Kelly recalled that Blessed Michael McGivney founded the Knights more than 140 years ago: “Built upon the pillars of charity, unity, and fraternity, we are proud today to continue this mission in our parishes and communities, and in nations facing the devastating effects of war and religious intolerance. We pray that our efforts may help bring peace and relieve suffering, bearing witness to the hope that comes from Jesus Christ.”

The SSVP USA is one of the sponsoring organizations of this gala. Among the other guests were Sister Ellen Hagar HC, Executive Director of the FAMVIN office, John Berry, National President of the SSVP in the USA, Sebastián Gramajo, Deputy General Vice President, Paulo Cavaleri, Executive Director of the SSVP CGI office, Paula Gwynn, National Director of Marketing and Communications for the SSVP in the USA and Juan Manuel B. Gómez, President General of the International SSVP.
