The SSVP in Rome Celebrates Three Years of L’Osservatore di Strada

Last Saturday, July 5th, in a fraternal atmosphere, the Festa dell’Osservatore di Strada was held at the Mediterranea headquarters. This event, organized by the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul in collaboration with the Congregation of the Mission and Mediterranea Rete, commemorated the three-year journey of the monthly publication L’Osservatore di Strada, renowned for its commitment to giving visibility and support to people in situations of vulnerability.

The celebration gathered numerous attendees around cultural activities such as live music—with a special highlight on the tribute band to Chic and Nile Rodgers—poetry readings, testimonies, and spaces for dialogue and community reflection. It was an evening led by all participants, where the importance of building peaceful communities through dialogue, justice, and forgiveness was underscored.

The event also featured contributions from representatives of solidarity organizations such as Caritas and Sant’Egidio, along with meaningful institutional messages, especially a heartfelt tribute to Pope Francis. Pope Leo XIV himself sent a special message thanking the editorial team of the monthly and the volunteers for their unwavering commitment to those often excluded from mainstream media and social narratives.

In this way, the Festa dell’Osservatore di Strada fulfilled its main objective: to foster a truly inclusive space for encounter, highlighting the human and social richness that emerges from viewing the world from the street’s perspective and from those whose voices are usually silenced.

Through their official social media channels, both San Vincenzo and Mediterranea Rete expressed their satisfaction and gratitude for the strong turnout and the success of the gathering, reaffirming the importance of initiatives such as L’Osservatore di Strada in building a more just and compassionate society.
