The SSVP in Benin deepens its understanding of its Vincentian roots
From 11 to 13 September 2026, members of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SSVP) from the Diocese of Porto-Novo, Benin, took part in a Vincentian formation session in preparation for the Feast of Saint Vincent de Paul, celebrated on 27 September.
Under the theme “History of the SSVP: Who are Frédéric Ozanam and Saint Vincent de Paul?”, representatives of the Conferences had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the origins of the Society and to learn more about Blessed Frédéric Ozanam, the principal founder of the SSVP, and Saint Vincent de Paul, the Society’s patron and spiritual inspiration.
Over the course of three days, participants shared moments of formation, fraternity and reflection, rediscovering the roots of the Vincentian charism and strengthening their commitment to the mission of serving people experiencing poverty and vulnerability.
The session was attended by Hounnon-Sotin Bernadin, National President of the SSVP in Benin, and Kodjo Tachégnon Denis, Secretary of the Continental Council of the Vincentian Family in Africa and Madagascar (VIFAM) for the French-speaking region.
This initiative forms part of the preparations of Vincentians in Benin for the Feast of Saint Vincent de Paul, an opportunity to renew their commitment to a spirituality that brings together faith, fraternity and service to those most in need.
