The Daughters of Charity renew their commitment of dedication to God and service to others

Spirituality

As every March 25th, Feast of the Annunciation, the Daughters of Charity renew their vows to serve Christ in the poor and commit themselves to live their consecration through the practice of the evangelical counsels of chastity, poverty, and obedience.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul congratulates them, thanks them, and prays for them, as they have given an unconditional “yes” to a life of dedication to God and service to those most in need.

What does the Annunciation mean?

The Annunciation recalls the moment when the Archangel Gabriel announces to the Virgin Mary that she will be the mother of Jesus through the work of God. This episode, found in the Gospel of Luke (Lk 1:26–38), is celebrated on March 25th, exactly nine months before Christmas, and is known as the Feast of the Incarnation because it marks the moment when God becomes man in Jesus.

The Annunciation represents Mary’s free “yes” to God’s will; a yes that becomes an example of faith and generosity, just as the Daughters of Charity renew their vows each year.
