SSVP Vietnam elects new president
John Ngo Viet Ha, member of the SSVP and of the Thanh Duc City Conference, will lead the SSVP of this country for the next four years.
The election took place last August 7 at the St. Mary’s Center in Bai Dau, in the diocese of Ba Ria. A total of eight candidates from different councils stood for the office of president. The General Spiritual Director and 20 electors, representing all the members of the country, participated in the election process.
In the end, the candidate who obtained more than 50% of the votes was declared the winner. John Ngo Viet, already as president-elect declared:
“Thanks to God and the Virgin Mary, thank you for trusting me to lead SSVP Vietnam for the next four years. Thank you God for choosing me through the votes of the voters. I am too small for the position God has placed me in. I will always ask the Holy Spirit to guide me, together with the company of the Father and the brothers and sisters who have preceded me, and thus complete the work that the Society has entrusted to me in this mandate.”
The new board of directors is expected to be presented at the end of October.
In Asia, the SSVP is divided into 26 councils, with 656 members in 5 dioceses. Its main work is to help the poorest in their parishes and neighborhoods, as well as to support some hospital kitchens and help areas of the country, which are affected by disasters.
