SSVP Kenya strengthens the formation of its new leaders
The National Council of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SSVP) in Kenya held a two-day leadership meeting and formation programme on 18–19 July 2026 at the Passionist Retreat Centre in Karen, Nairobi. The meeting brought together newly elected Area Council Presidents and Secretaries from across the country, reflecting the continued growth and expansion of the Society.
The gathering provided an opportunity to review the Society’s 2025 audited financial accounts, financial management plans, membership status for 2025 and 2026, Area Council reports, aggregations and institutions, as well as progress on ongoing council activities, formation programmes and major projects.
Carol Kariuki, President of the National Council, officially launched the continuous formation plan for the newly elected leaders. Sr Elizabeth Kimeu, DC, Spiritual Advisor, reflected on Vincentian spirituality and the call to holiness through service. Drawing on John 6:1–15, she highlighted the Vincentian call to “see and act”, encouraging leaders to respond to the needs of people living in poverty with compassion, faith and practical action.
The formation sessions included training on Vincentian Servant Leadership and the Roles of Council Boards, facilitated by Mary Alice Wambui, CGI Africa 1 Delegate for Formation. Regina Gathoni, National Training Officer, led sessions on the Vincentian Vocation, helping participants deepen their understanding of their calling and responsibilities as Vincentian leaders.
Michael Musembi, Trustee, explored leadership and the management of SSVP affairs within the framework of the Constitution of SSVP Kenya. The meeting was also honoured by the presence of Urbanus Kinuthia, Deputy to the CGI Second Vice-President General.
The programme concluded with the celebration of Holy Mass, presided over by Fr Raphael Mang’iti of the Passionist Fathers.
