The SSVP Ecuador held its 2021 National Meeting on January 31 to coordinate the Vincentian work across the country, and to conduct the national presidential elections for the 2021-24 term.

The meeting was held virtually due to Covid-19 travel restrictions. The country has been severely affected by the disease, and the SSVP has worked hard to alleviate the suffering of those who needed it most. At the opening of the meeting, the National Vice President, sister María Rosa Corral, welcomed the members from the 14 active conferences in the country. The opening reflection revolved around the theme “What is being a Vincentian?”.

Moreover, CGI representatives made formation-related interventions during the event. The Territorial Vice President for America 3, Julio Cesar Marques de Lima, presented the topic “Challenges of the Global SSVP for the 2021-2022 Biennium.” The Coordinator for region 2 of the same Territorial Vice Presidency, Sebastião Ribeiro, presented the topic “The Vincentian home visiting”. The first part of the meeting was concluded with a Holy Mass, celebrated by Father Guido Molina (CM), Spiritual Advisor of the National Council.

During the second part of the meeting, the Vincentians from Ecuador discussed the future of the SSVP in the country and held the presidential elections. Jorge Armando Villa Guevara was elected president for a new 3-year term at the head of the National Council.

The National President highlighted the priorities of the National Council for this new term of office: “During this new term, we will work to strengthen our conferences and find ways to support those who have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and need help to rebuild their lives”, he said.
