World News

Brazil’s National Council (CNB), supported by Natal’s Central Council (RN), joined the initiative launched by the Archdiocese of Natal to provide relief assistance to the African country Sao Tome and Principe.

Relief support was provided following news from SSVP Brazilian members SSVP about a Brazilian navy ship setting off for Africa to deliver emergency relief items.

In no time, the local SSVP team reached the SSVP President in Sao Tome and Principe, Maria Menezes D’Alva, and Father Alex, from the Archdiocese of Natal, who liaised with the navy army.

Altogether, one tonne of non-perishable foods were donated by the CNB. Fellow member Beethoven Medeiros, in charge of the purchase and shipment of food, along with fellow member Edvaldo Pereira de Souza explained to us that food delivery was customized taking into account local customs and needs.

It should be noted that there are currently five Vincentian Conferences in Sao Tome and Principe, that are taking on the mission of distributing food, always ensuring that food items reach those most in need.
