President General makes an official visit to Portugal and Spain

Between December 10th and 13th, 2016, Brother Renato Lima de Oliveira, 16th President General of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SSVP), will be officially visiting the National Councils of Portugal and Spain.

On December 10th and 11th, the President General will be in Lisbon (capital of Portugal), where he will participate in the meeting of the National Council. He will also meet with the Presidents of many Portuguese Central Councils, attend the Assembly of the Immaculate, will be received by Bishop Manoel Clemente (Patriarch of Lisbon), and will meet with Presidents of SSVP Special Work Associations.

On December 12th and 13th, the President General will be in Madrid (Spain), where he will fulfill an intense work agenda that includes: meeting at the headquarters of the National Council, Vincentian fraternization, live interviews for Radio Maria and for Digital Religion, Catholic website. He will also visit the headquarters of the Daughters of Charity and the priests of the Congregation of the Mission, visit the community refectory Santiago Masarnau and, gathering with the volunteers of the Vincentian Marian Youth (VMY).

“I am truly happy to make these important visits to two countries where the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul has been growing in quantity and quality. I am very happy to be able to speak directly with the Vincentians and share with them the challenges of our Conferences and Councils. The General Council has the support of Portugal and Spain, serving in hope and moving in unity” added Brother Renato Lima de Oliveira.

After these two visits, the President General heads towards Paris, where, between December 14th and 17th, the Board of the Council General International (CGI) and the Commission International for Aid and Development (CIAD) will meet.
