New Venues and Dates for the Upcoming CGI’s 2020 Meetings and Activities

CGI Annual Meeting will be held in Paris, in December
The New Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic has changed the routines of mankind. Obviously, this has also affected the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul’s daily life. Within the Council General International (CGI), this situation was no different. Several initiatives have been cancelled, and some institutional trips, postponed.
In compliance with the provisions made by health authorities, the Council General has rescheduled its main activities, trips and international meetings until further notice. After prior consultation with the Board and members of the Permanent Section, fellow member Renato Lima de Oliveira, 16th President General, suggested a provisional agenda that, God willing, can be met.
Paris will host the CGI’s Annual Meeting in 2020. Initially, this was to be held in Africa in June, but, due to circumstances, is now scheduled for December 9th-13th, 2020. As already agreed by presidents of the National/Superior Councils, who take part in the International Executive Committee (15 countries) and the Concordat (20 countries), these meetings will be attended by the plenary via videoconferencing. As usual, Ozanam TV will broadcast all events.
The Executive Board (President General, Vice-president General, Treasurer General and Secretary General) will try to meet either by videoconference or face-to-face, during the second semester. CGI’s full Board will conduct two meetings, the first one in October and the second one in December. The date fixed for visiting Félix Clavé’s grave is maintained, but there will be a small delegation for that visit.
“Despite the delicate moment in which we are in, planning cannot stop. Some activities will be undertaken to ensure continuity in Council General’s activities. Most of the events will be held via videoconferencing to avoid non-essential international travel. Transparency will be ensured, with great austerity and responsibility. With God’s grace, we will overcome this crisis and, soon, we will be back to normal. Let us have faith, trust and patience”, stated our President General, fellow Renato Lima de Oliveira.
