National Assembly Mexico – 2019

The SSVP members from different regions of Mexico met, from July 19 to 21, in the city of Cuernavaca (capital of the state of Morelos) to hold the 173rd National Assembly, accompanied by the Zone 1 Coordinator for America II, the President and the National Counsellor, as well as some guests who are part of the Vincentian Family.
Under the theme Formed in order to serve better, the formation-related subjects and issues presented were as follows: The Vincentian Vocation in Everyday Life, by Luis Lusarreta, C.M.; Doing Well while Doing Good, by Fr. Benjamin Romo, C.M.; Home Visit in the Vincentian Tradition, by Sister Carolina Flores, D.C.; Know-How about SSVP’s Projects and Special Programmes, by Gina Ocampo; and the introduction to the Handbook for Conferences and Formation Plan, by Luz María Ramírez. Demi Margarita Ramírez, Youth Representative, was engaged in special activities for youth members, and the SSVP Mexico’s National Youth Committee was set up.
During these three days, there were moments of encounter with God through morning prayers and the Eucharist presided over by our counsellors and conducted by the Conference OJAR María Reina, which made participants feel the presence of God that guides our mission of service and devotion to the poor. Memorable moments were that of fellow members reaffirming their Vincentian commitment and the consecration of new members. Cultural moments were also enjoyed with the regions sharing part of their traditions by means of videos, performances, songs and dances.
During the Plenary Assembly, the message of our President General, Renato Lima, and other SSVP members from other countries was conveyed. The Regional Presidents and the National Council’s members submitted their activity report (from July 2018 to July 2019), which allowed us to evaluate the progress made on our service, to take on new challenges and establish new goals for the period to come.
The upcoming National Assembly will be held on the third weekend of July 2020, and will be hosted by Region III (León).
