Mexico: Vincentian solidarity with sick people in Morelia
Following the recent celebration of Our Lady of Lourdes and the World Day of the Sick, the “Corazón de María” Conference of the Society of St Vincent de Paul (SSVP) in Morelia, Mexico, has reaffirmed its commitment to closeness and support for sick people and their families, integrating the spiritual and social dimensions of its action within the community.
On this occasion, the members of the organisation took part in the Eucharist with the Anointing of the Sick, celebrated at the Corazón de María church, a gesture that forms part of work carried out throughout the year. Far from being limited to a one-off commemoration, their work takes the form of ongoing support for patients from various medical specialties, promoting comprehensive care and a network of support within both hospital and parish settings.

The twelve volunteers regularly collaborate with oncology patients and their families, sharing breakfasts during treatment sessions; they organise the making and distribution of blankets in winter for hospitalised patients and for new mothers with limited means; they provide medicines to children with cancer when public healthcare coverage proves insufficient; and they maintain a food pantry for families in vulnerable situations in the city.
In the coming days they will continue to take part in liturgical celebrations in hospitals, encouraging the active involvement of patients and strengthening a presence that combines spiritual support, accompaniment and a response to concrete needs.
In this way, the Society of St Vincent de Paul in Mexico expresses an organised and sustained solidarity over time, aimed at strengthening the social fabric and placing sick people at the centre of social action.
