Brother Hubert Derache, new President of the SSVP in France

He took up this service position on July 2nd after having been president of the Morbihan SSVP
since 2019
An infantry officer and advisor in various ministerial cabinets, it seemed natural to him, after his professional career, to commit himself to the voluntary sector with his membership in the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul.
Brother Hubert Derache has set several objectives for his mandate, amongst them, to make the work and service of the Society better known, to invite the participation of youth in the conferences, to develop food aid and to promote education and training as a means of social reintegration.
Another of his priorities is the fight against loneliness and social isolation and to reach this goal, he will promote projects such as the “café sourire” (smile coffee), so that people who suffer from loneliness can have encounters with Vincentians when they can feel listened to and accompanied.
Brother Hubert Derache has had a busy professional life: from Lebanon – where he was an infantry officer, to Martinique, via Mayotte, Polynesia and Isère, not forgetting the cabinets of Mrs. Brigitte Girardin, Minister of Overseas France from 2002 to 2006, and of Mr. Marc Laffineur, Secretary of State for Defense from 2011 to 2012. He will now put all his experience and skills into this new position of service as National President of the SSVP in France, the cradle of the conferences, which currently has more than 17,000 members spread throughout the country.
