Appeal for February. Survival of Homeless Shelter for Elderly in Bogotá (Columbia)

Appeal of the Month – A New Way to Help

Each month , CGI,s COMMISSION FOR INTERNATIONAL AID AND DEVELOPMENT (CIAD ) will select a particularly worthwhile Society project which is badly in need of funds and invite the Society throughout the world to support it directly.

Normally , CIAD would help such much need projects itself but with COVID 19 and other demands on its limited funds , CIAD cannot assist all worthwhile projects presented .We are therefore providing an opportunity for selected projects to appeal for the support of the international community of the Society through the medium of CGIs website with the full endorsement of CIAD.

APPEAL FOR FEBRUARY – SURVIVAL OF HOMELESS SHELTER FOR ELDERLY IN BOGOTÁ

The situation: ELDERLY AND HOMELESS

The SSVP in Bogotá , Columbia runs a residential home for homeless elderly people. There are currently 45 residents  over  the age of 65 who receive shelter, support and health services as well as companionship and friendship in the Vincentian tradition.

The future of the Home is at risk. The structure has deteriorated and does not now comply with building and other standards of the local authority.

A major programme of refurbishment is required which involves a new roof , replacement of windows and upgrading of the plumbing and electrical systems.

The appeal: SURVIVAL OF HOMELESS SHELTER FOR ELDERLY IN BOGOTÁ

The cost of completing these essential works is estimated at €75,000. The SSVP in Bogotá has managed to find €30,000 locally and is seeking to raise €45,000 from the international SSVP.

How to help:

CIAD is favourably disposed towards this very worthwhile project but unfortunately does not currently have the necessary funds available itself to meet the shortfall.

In these circumstances, CIAD strongly encourages members, Conferences and Councils of the SSVP throughout the world to support the Appeal directly.

Please contribute what you can. Your generosity will ensure the survival of this vital project which is so important to the SSVP in Bogotá and those it serves .
